DVS Badge

Introduction

If you’ve been part of the DVS community since the founding in 2019, you might remember that we used to create custom badges for each member that uniquely represented their data visualization skills across 9 variables. Many of our members would proudly display their badge as their profile photo on social media and our Slack.

Amy Cesal, one of the co-founders of DVS described in her Medium article how she designed the DVS logo and badges:

“Since data visualization touches on many skill sets, and people come to it from different backgrounds, I wanted to visualize each member’s unique visualization skills. The skill categories are loosely inspired by Andy Kirk’s data visualization hats principal. While there’s no absolute metric to measure these qualities, we developed a way to let people rank themselves across 9 categories pertaining to their skills in Data, Visualization, and Society.”

We are pleased to announce that we are officially bringing the DVS badge back to dues-paying members. You can visually represent your own identity and skillset in this badge. We hope the badge will provide a means for you to measure your growth and progress in your personal and professional journey. We encourage you to update the badge each year to see how far you have come and identify new goals you’d like to set for yourself.
